UN Representative Calls for Unified Dialogue and Institutional Reform in Iraq

The United Nations representative in Iraq Mohammed Al-Hassan, has stressed the importance of a unified national dialogue and institutional reforms as crucial elements for ensuring Iraq’s long-term stability. Addressing the Baghdad International Dialogue Conference, the UN official seconded remarks made earlier by Kurdish President Nechirvan Barzani, emphasizing that the message carried weight not just for the Kurdistan Region, but for the entire nation of Iraq.

The representative underscored Iraq’s commitment to building strong institutions and fostering stability, noting that cooperation and solidarity are essential during this pivotal time for both Iraq and the broader Middle East. The UN official also expressed support for Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s vision for enhancing security and public services, reaffirming the UN’s ongoing commitment to Iraq and its future.

The Baghdad International Dialogue Conference, themed “Communication for Development and Regional Stability,” is taking place from February 22-23, 2025. The conference agenda includes discussions on Iraq’s Development Road project, its evolving security role, and the influence of intellectual leaders. The second day of the event will delve into broader geopolitical shifts, economic cooperation, energy corridors, and regional integration, with specific sessions dedicated to exploring Syria’s future and the global power competition unfolding in the Middle East.
