PM Mohammed Al-Sudani Highlights Iraq’s Commitment to Development and Regional Stability at Baghdad Dialogue Conference

Baghdad, Iraq- In his opening speech, at the Baghdad International Dialogue conference, Prime Minister Al-Sudani emphasized the crucial role of dialogue as a constitutional tool, particularly within the framework of freedom of opinion and expression. He stressed that dialogue is essential for uncovering opportunities and perspectives that may not always be evident to decision-makers, and emphasized that the government remains committed to addressing challenges through ongoing dialogue at local, regional, and international levels.

Al-Sudani also highlighted that Iraq’s foreign policy is rooted in balance, refraining from aligning with any particular axis while engaging with all efforts aimed at preventing the escalation of conflicts. He reiterated Iraq’s steadfast stance on key global issues, particularly the Palestinian cause, which remains a fundamental aspect of the country’s international policy. Key points from the Prime Minister’s speech included the government’s full awareness of the internal and external challenges ahead, while recognizing the difficulty of balancing Iraq’s aspirations with the need to uphold national interests, despite encountering political challenges and unrealistic rhetoric. Iraq’s commitment to maintaining a balance in foreign policy is essential for protecting the country from the consequences of decisions that overlook national interests.

Regarding the situation in Gaza, Al-Sudani expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people and highlighted Iraq’s role in advocating for the Palestinian cause on the global stage. He noted the failure of the international system to address the ongoing challenges facing Palestinians. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to development and reconstruction, stressing that the path of development cannot be delayed and must continue forward, citing major strategic projects such as the Development Road. He emphasized that the Development Road is a key regional initiative that strengthens Iraq’s economic, cultural, and historical ties with neighboring countries, offering opportunities for integration and partnership.

Al-Sudani also discussed Iraq’s success in fostering key regional dialogues, notably between Saudi Arabia and Iran, and praised the completion of the Global Coalition Against Daesh mission, transitioning to bilateral relations and security coordination with member states. The Prime Minister concluded by affirming that trade, cultural, and economic exchanges with neighboring countries remain foundational to Iraq’s efforts to build civilization and maximize its natural resources. In his speech, Prime Minister Al-Sudani reiterated that the Development Road represents not just a project for Iraq, but a regional initiative to promote collaboration and growth across multiple areas, further cementing Iraq’s role as a hub for regional stability and economic development.
