PM Mohammed Sudan Highlights the Importance of Renewable Energy Projects, Including Solar Power

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani emphasized the crucial role of renewable energy projects, particularly solar energy. He highlighted this during a meeting on Monday, which focused on energy efficiency and renewable energy initiatives.

The Prime Minister chaired a session with the National Team for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Projects. During the meeting, the team presented its plan for reducing strain on Iraq’s electricity system. The goal is to increase energy production and improve consumption efficiency.

Al-Sudani stressed that renewable energy, especially solar power, is essential for transitioning to clean energy. He called for prioritizing solar energy projects to achieve a significant shift in how Iraq generates electricity. The Prime Minister also advocated for adopting smart solutions to make energy generation more sustainable.

A key project discussed during the meeting was the government palace initiative. This project is part of the broader effort to implement energy-saving measures in government buildings across Iraq. The Prime Minister directed the start of this initiative, which will eventually extend to 164 government buildings nationwide. These buildings will undergo transformations to incorporate energy-saving and alternative energy solutions.

Additionally, the Prime Minister reviewed plans for a pioneering solar station project at the Ministry of Interior. This project is nearing approval and will be one of the first of its kind in Iraq. The meeting also covered the Army Canal project, which will soon be launched as an investment opportunity. This project aims to generate 100 MW of clean energy.

The meeting also explored the preparation of plans for smart solutions. These solutions will be implemented in several regions, including Muthanna and Anbar governorates. The government aims to expand solar energy projects in residential areas, introducing smart solutions in districts and sub-districts.

Finally, the meeting highlighted the progress in integrating smart solutions into service and collection contracts. Iraq is also preparing technical requirements for solar stations, marking significant progress in reducing reliance on traditional fuels and cutting carbon emissions.

In conclusion, the Prime Minister’s focus on renewable energy projects, particularly solar power, reflects Iraq’s commitment to achieving a cleaner, more sustainable energy future. These initiatives will help reduce energy pressure, promote efficiency, and decrease environmental impact.
