Baghdad, Iraq – The leader of the Shiite National Movement, Sayyid Muqtada al-Sadr, confirmed on Thursday, that he will not take part in the upcoming electoral process.
In response to a question regarding the involvement of members of the Shiite National Movement in the preparations for the elections, al-Sadr stated, “All thanks to God, who has saved us from corrupt individuals. The Almighty does not favor corruption.
Let it be known that as long as corruption persists, I will not engage in a flawed electoral process focused only on sectarian, ethnic, and partisan interests, far removed from the real struggles of the people and the disasters unfolding in the region, much of which stems from dragging Iraq and its people into conflicts that have no bearing on them, as the saying goes.”
He further remarked, “I continue to rely on the loyalty of the popular base of the Sadrist supporters within the Shiite National Movement. Just as I previously instructed them to vote, I now forbid them from voting or running for office, as it would be aiding in wrongdoing. We will remain devoted to Iraq, ready to sacrifice for it, and we will never falter in our commitment.”
