March 12th, Mosul: A City in Pain and Displacement

March 12th was a day of heartbreak for the people of Mosul. Families fled in fear, grabbing whatever they could carry. Streets once filled with laughter echoed with cries. The city in pain and displacement saw no relief.

Early in the morning, explosions shattered the silence. ISIS fighters launched new attacks, forcing parents to scoop up their children and run. Smoke choked the air, burning eyes and lungs. The city in pain and displacement trembled under fear. Hospitals overflowed as doctors worked beyond exhaustion. Aid workers hurried between patients, doing their best with limited supplies.By midday, thousands were on the move. Some carried infants wrapped in blankets, shielding them from the dust. Elderly men leaned on walking sticks, every step a struggle. Mothers whispered reassurances, though their own eyes were filled with terror. The city in pain and displacement had turned into a long march of desperation. In the chaos, families were torn apart. Fathers ran from one shelter to another, calling out the names of missing loved ones. Children clung to strangers when their own parents couldn’t be found. Hunger gnawed at empty stomachs, but food was scarce. Relief workers passed out whatever they had, but supplies ran out too quickly.

ISIS fighters continued to spread fear, attacking homes, schools, and hospitals. Entire neighborhoods crumbled under the assault. The city in pain and displacement suffered as the world watched in silence. As night fell, families huddled together under makeshift tents or beneath broken buildings. Parents held their children close, shielding them from the horrors around them. Some whispered prayers, clinging to hope like a lifeline.

March 12th will forever be remembered as a day of suffering for Mosul. Yet, despite the fear, loss, and heartbreak, its people refuse to be broken. The city in pain and displacement still stands, and its people still dream of peace.

Tomorrow may bring more struggles, but the spirit of Mosul will not fade. Even in their darkest hours, its people hold onto hope.
