KBR Secures $187 Million Contract to Provide Medical Support Services in Iraq

U.S. engineering firm KBR has been awarded a $187 million contract by the U.S. Department of State to provide comprehensive medical support services in Iraq. The contract, part of the Diplomatic Platform Support Services (DiPSS) initiative, spans five years and is set to run through 2029.

Under the Medical Support Services Iraq (MedSSI) task order, KBR will operate a Diplomatic Support Hospital and four additional clinics, serving over 4,000 personnel working to support the U.S. Mission in Iraq. The medical services provided will cover primary, urgent, and emergency care, as well as specialized treatments in areas such as surgery, orthopedics, neurology, gynecology, radiology, emergency medicine, critical care, and mental health care. All services will be delivered by certified medical professionals, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and support staff.

This new contract marks KBR’s first engagement with the U.S. Department of State in the field of medical support services. However, the company has significant experience in healthcare, having previously provided health and human performance care to NASA and U.S. military personnel, including medical and psychological support for astronauts and special operations forces.

Byron Bright, President of KBR’s Mission Technology Solutions division, expressed pride in the new partnership, stating that access to high-quality medical care is essential for State Department personnel operating in Iraq. He added that KBR’s deep understanding of the region, coupled with its strong logistical capabilities, makes the company well-suited to meet the medical needs of U.S. personnel in Iraq.

The five-year MedSSI task order reflects KBR’s longstanding presence in Iraq and reinforces its capacity to deliver vital support to U.S. diplomatic and military operations in the region. With a robust supply chain and proven operational experience, KBR is positioned to ensure that U.S. personnel have access to critical medical services throughout their deployment.
