Iraq Cuts Customs Duties to Support Private Sector and Boost Exports

Hamoudi Al-Lami, the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Industry, Development, and Private Sector Affairs, confirmed on Friday that the government has reduced customs duties to zero on machinery, production equipment, and raw materials. This move aims to support Iraq’s private sector and encourage industrial growth. Al-Lami also highlighted that several industries are now exporting goods to Gulf and neighboring countries.

Speaking to the press, Al-Lami explained that supporting the industrial sector is one of the top priorities of the government’s agenda. This focus has been demonstrated through various initiatives, including holding workshops with industrialists across different sectors and increasing the number of consultants to identify and address issues within the industry.

In addition to the customs duty reduction, the government has taken significant steps to ease the process for the private sector, such as forming a committee made up of 13 entities from different ministries and the industrial sector. This committee aims to streamline customs procedures at border crossings, further facilitating the flow of goods.
