On Monday, the Rwanga Foundation announced the completion of a large emergency response campaign. The organization supported 1,240 families affected by widespread flood damage.
Moreover, Rwanga explained that the five-day operation reflected a strong sense of national duty. Additionally, more than 100 staff members and volunteers joined the effort. They worked continuously across multiple locations to deliver urgent assistance.
Furthermore, teams distributed essential household supplies to families facing displacement and loss. The aid included 100,000 square meters of rugs for damaged homes. It also included 1,240 heaters to help families endure cold conditions.
In addition, Rwanga delivered 6,200 blankets and 6,200 mattresses. Volunteers also provided 6,200 pillows for basic comfort. Meanwhile, children received over 2,000 units of milk and nutritional supplies.
Importantly, Rwanga responded to specific family requests beyond standard relief packages. Therefore, aid teams addressed medical, heating, and child care needs individually. This approach strengthened trust between residents and volunteers.
Meanwhile, the floods followed three consecutive days of intense rainfall. Consequently, flash floods swept through the Kurdistan Region and nearby Iraqi areas. Streets overflowed and infrastructure collapsed in several districts.
According to the Joint Crisis Coordination Center, damage spread across Kurdistan and Kirkuk province. At least five people lost their lives. Additionally, authorities reported 19 injuries. Furthermore, floods damaged 2,225 homes across affected areas.
Notably, Chamchamal district in eastern Sulaimani suffered the greatest destruction. Officials confirmed two deaths and 12 injuries there. Floodwaters damaged 1,607 homes and destroyed 200 vehicles.
Additionally, floods affected 115 shops and workplaces. Authorities also reported damage to 450 public and private projects. As a result, local economies faced sudden disruption.
Rwanga stated that its teams operated in Chamchamal and surrounding subdistricts. They also worked across Garmian administration areas. Furthermore, aid reached northern Kirkuk communities. This ensured balanced assistance for all victims of Kurdistan flood relief efforts.
In its closing remarks, Rwanga expressed hope for long-term recovery. The Foundation urged swift restoration of normal daily life. It also emphasized stability and prosperity for the Kurdistan Region.
Meanwhile, other charities launched parallel relief campaigns. Many organizations focused on Chamchamal cleanup operations. Volunteers assisted families with debris removal and early reconstruction steps.
Additionally, Dana Gas pledged $2 million in emergency aid on Monday. The UAE-based company supports communities near its energy operations. Dana Gas manages the Khor Mor and Chamchamal gas fields.
Company spokesperson Shakir Shakir confirmed the donation details. He said the funds equal approximately 2.8 billion Iraqi dinars. Moreover, he stressed full coordination with the Kurdistan Regional Government.
Similarly, Rudaw Media Network launched a major fundraising initiative. The campaign raised nearly 6 billion Iraqi dinars. Contributions came mainly from prominent Kurdish business leaders.
Rudaw presenter Ranj Sangawi led the campaign through his program. A specialized committee will oversee fund distribution. Authorities aim to ensure transparency and accountability. Ultimately, Kurdistan flood relief remains a shared national responsibility.
