Iraq Strikes ISIS Hideouts as Anbar Security Operations Intensify

Iraq announced new counterterrorism strikes against ISIS positions in Anbar province. Security officials said Iraqi forces targeted militant hideouts in the western desert.

The operation focused on remote areas where ISIS members often try to regroup. Moreover, the strikes aimed to prevent militants from using desert terrain for movement.

Iraq airstrikes hit two suspected ISIS hideouts in Anbar. The Joint Operations Command said the strikes destroyed the locations. It also said the operation supported wider security efforts across western Iraq.

Anbar remains one of Iraq’s most important security fronts. The province covers large desert areas near key border routes. Therefore, security forces continue to monitor militant activity in isolated zones.

Officials said intelligence teams helped identify the hideouts before the strikes. Then, Iraqi aircraft attacked with direct coordination. As a result, security forces removed another threat from the desert region.

The operation also showed Iraq’s continued focus on ISIS remnants. Although the group lost its major territorial control, small cells remain active. These cells often use remote areas to hide, move, and plan attacks.

In addition, Iraqi security agencies continue to track networks that support extremist activity. The National Security Service previously announced a major operation in Anbar. During that operation, forces disrupted a terrorist cell and captured an ISIS leader.

Authorities said that the cell wanted to reorganize and launch attacks inside Iraq. However, intelligence work helped security forces break the network before it could act. This effort highlighted the importance of early detection.

Iraq has spent years fighting ISIS and its remaining cells. The group once controlled large areas across Iraq and Syria. It also forced millions of Iraqis to leave their homes.

Many displaced families came from Nineveh, Salah al-Din, Kirkuk, Diyala, and Anbar. Their displacement left serious social and economic damage. Therefore, security operations still carry strong importance for affected communities.

Iraqi forces later pushed ISIS out of its major strongholds. However, the government still conducts regular operations against hidden militants. These missions aim to stop ISIS from rebuilding its networks.

The Anbar desert remains difficult for security forces. Its wide terrain gives militants many places to hide. Therefore, air operations often play a key role in counterterrorism campaigns.

Iraq airstrikes also help reduce risks for ground forces. Aircraft can reach difficult areas quickly and strike targets with speed. Meanwhile, intelligence units can guide operations from earlier surveillance work.

The latest operation sends a message to ISIS remnants. Iraqi forces will continue to pursue militants across remote regions. Moreover, commanders want to deny the group any safe space.

Security officials also want to protect nearby towns and transport routes. Anbar’s location gives it major strategic value. As a result, any ISIS activity there can raise national security concerns.

Iraq airstrikes form part of a wider campaign against extremist cells. The government continues to combine intelligence, air power, and field operations. This approach aims to prevent ISIS from regaining strength.

For now, Iraqi commanders continue to focus on desert hideouts and sleeper cells. They also want stronger coordination between national agencies. Therefore, Anbar will likely remain a key part of Iraq’s security strategy.
