Strengthening Iraq-EU Strategic Ties: Fuad Hussein Leads Talks in Brussels

Strengthening Iraq-EU strategic ties was a key priority during the latest diplomatic visit led by Fuad Hussein. Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs landed in Brussels on Friday. His trip aims to advance cooperation with European Union officials.

Hussein’s main goal is to attend the fourth Iraq-EU Cooperation Council. This major meeting will take place in Luxembourg on Sunday, October 19, 2025. According to Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hussein will meet with senior EU officials. These include foreign ministers from multiple EU countries. Discussions will focus on expanding ties in security, trade, and energy sectors.

Moreover, the Iraq-EU Cooperation Council reflects mutual commitment. Both sides aim to build long-term cooperation based on mutual respect and shared goals. The Council sessions often serve as a platform for open dialogue and strategic planning.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas will chair the meeting. She will lead discussions with Iraq’s delegation, headed by Fuad Hussein. The agenda includes key topics such as human rights, democracy, and migration.
