Joint Emergency Meeting Kicks Off in Doha to Address Israeli Strikes on Qatar

Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein arrived in Doha on Sunday to attend a joint emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers. The meeting, hosted by Qatar, aims to create a unified response to Israel’s recent military actions.

The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed Hussein’s arrival in a brief statement. The ministry noted that he will also represent Iraq in discussions organized by the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Qatar called for this joint emergency meeting after Israeli missiles struck its capital. Israel claimed the strike targeted Hamas leaders who were meeting in Doha last week. The incident killed five Hamas members and one Qatari security official. However, Israeli forces failed to eliminate the Hamas leaders they aimed to target.

The attack triggered outrage across the Middle East and drew global condemnation. The United Nations Security Council unanimously denounced Israel’s actions during a session on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Arab and Islamic leaders are gathering in Doha to discuss a formal response. Specifically, they plan to release a unified draft resolution that addresses what they describe as “state terrorism” by Israel. According to Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, the summit will finalize this resolution on Monday.

Earlier on Sunday, foreign ministers from Arab and Islamic countries began consultations. These initial talks aim to solidify a clear regional stance and outline concrete steps against Israel’s aggression. In this context, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein voiced Iraq’s full support for joint Arab-Islamic efforts.

Furthermore, Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, emphasized the urgent need for unity. He stressed that the region must deliver a collective response to the Israeli strike. Notably, he made this statement after meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in New York on Friday.

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian confirmed his attendance at the summit. Leaders from Pakistan and Malaysia also joined the meetings. Iranian officials urged Islamic governments to take coordinated action instead of issuing symbolic statements.

Qatar has played a major role in mediating conflicts in the region. In this summit, it aims to channel pro-Palestinian sentiment and increase pressure on Israel. By doing so, officials hope to promote unity and deter future attacks.

The joint emergency meeting continues Monday, with final decisions expected by nightfall. The summit may redefine how Arab and Islamic nations approach future Israeli military actions.
