President Abdul Latif Rashid Stresses Iraq’s Commitment to Regional Stability and Relations with Iran

Baghdad, Iraq- Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, reaffirmed Iraq’s foreign policy is centered on its people’s interests and the pursuit of regional security and stability during a meeting with Iranian Vice President Mohammad Javad Zarif on Thursday.

The meeting, held at the Presidential Palace, saw Zarif, accompanied by his delegation, delivering greetings from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to President Rashid. In return, Rashid extended his appreciation and best wishes to Pezeshkian and the people of Iran.

According to the statement from the media department of the Presidency, Rashid emphasized Iraq’s dedication to strengthening bilateral relations with Iran and expanding cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations. He outlined that Iraq’s foreign policy remains driven by the interests of its citizens, aiming for a secure and stable region.

The President also stressed the importance of dialogue in addressing the challenges facing regional countries, encouraging productive discussions to resolve conflicts.

Regarding the ongoing situation in Palestine, President Rashid reiterated Iraq’s unwavering support for Palestinian rights, particularly their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state. He further stated that Iraq’s relations with neighboring countries and the international community are vital, and Iraq continues to play a key role in fostering peace and facilitating dialogue between regional actors.

Iranian Vice President Zarif highlighted the longstanding ties between Iraq and Iran, citing shared religious, social, and historical connections. He affirmed Iran’s continued support for Iraq’s sovereignty and security, emphasizing the significant role both nations play in promoting peace and stability in the Arab region.
