Prime Minister Muhammed S. Al-Sudani hosted the 48th session of the Council of Arab Ministers for Youth and Sports in Baghdad, which has been named the 2025 Arab Capital of Sports. In his opening remarks, Al-Sudani welcomed the Arab ministers and emphasized Iraq’s growth, driven by a new generation of resilient young people.
He outlined the government’s focus on youth, detailing a three-pillar approach: empowering youth, creating job opportunities, and providing necessary support. Al-Sudani highlighted several key initiatives, including the establishment of the Higher Council for Youth, which works to implement programs that support young Iraqis’ aspirations and address their concerns.
The government’s “Riyada” initiative has already enrolled nearly 400,000 youth in training and granted over 16,000 operational loans. Al-Sudani also noted the significant investment in sports, with Iraq now equipped to host international events thanks to new FIFA-standard stadiums and completed sports infrastructure.
The Prime Minister further stressed the importance of youth involvement in social issues, including campaigns against drug abuse and climate change. With youth representing a large portion of the population, Al-Sudani reiterated that empowering this generation is vital for Iraq’s long-term success.
He concluded by expressing solidarity with the youth of Gaza and Lebanon, urging Arab ministers to work together on policies that support youth empowerment across the region.
