Iraq Orders All Armed Groups to Surrender Power to the State

The Iraqi government has taken a decisive step toward stabilizing the nation. Officials recently renewed urgent calls for all independent armed groups to surrender their weapons. The state must control all military power to ensure lasting peace. Therefore, Iraq’s administration launched a comprehensive national strategy to secure the country’s borders and citizens.

State control over weapons serves as the foundation for this new security policy. A government spokesperson emphasized this point during a recent press conference. He described the initiative as the most critical pillar of their national security program. The administration demands strict commitment from all factions. Furthermore, they want to enforce the rule of law immediately. Ending illegal armed manifestations will protect the country’s sovereignty.

Consequently, all armed units must obey the central command. The government will manage all military decisions and resources. This move aims to eliminate independent militias that operate outside the law.

Additionally, the country’s defense strategy relies heavily on preventive diplomacy. Iraq will no longer allow foreign powers to interfere in domestic affairs. Officials also stated that neighboring countries face no threat from Iraqi territory.

However, enforcing state control over weapons remains a difficult challenge. Powerful factions within the Popular Mobilization Forces still maintain independent structures. These groups often ignore official government orders. Previous administrations also tried to disarm these groups but failed. Some militias refuse to hand over weapons due to foreign military presence.

The United States strongly supports this consolidation of power. American officials believe these measures will enhance long-term regional stability. Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi now faces a familiar and dangerous political test. Achieving absolute state control over weapons will determine the future of his administration.
