Iraq and Oman Deepen Bilateral Cooperation

Iraq-Oman relations continue to strengthen as Baghdad and Muscat work toward deeper diplomatic and economic ties. The latest development came when Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received a written message from Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, addressed to Iraq’s President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid.

Oman’s Ambassador to Iraq, Mahmoud bin Mahna al-Kharousi, personally delivered the message. While the letter’s contents remain confidential, it highlights the close coordination between the two countries.

During the meeting, Minister Hussein emphasized Iraq’s commitment to building strong and lasting partnerships. He underscored the importance of expanding collaboration across political, economic, and cultural areas. These remarks echoed the spirit of ongoing diplomatic progress seen in recent years.

Iraq-Oman relations have been on an upward path. Minister Hussein recently visited Muscat, where he was warmly received. He praised Oman’s constructive role in promoting regional dialogue and supporting collective Arab initiatives. The visit was part of a broader strategy to enhance cooperation between the two countries.

Oman, known for its neutral and diplomatic stance, has contributed to regional stability. It has often acted as a bridge between opposing sides, especially in sensitive matters like the Iranian nuclear file. Iraq values this approach and sees Oman as a vital partner in addressing shared challenges.

Economic cooperation between the two nations is also growing. Last year, Iraq and Oman signed several memoranda of understanding. These included agreements on visa-free travel and increased investment coordination. Such deals mark significant steps toward economic integration and mutual growth.

Trade has also gained momentum. Official figures show that bilateral trade surpassed $600 million in 2024. This increase reflects the strengthening commercial side of Iraq-Oman relations, which now complement the deepening diplomatic engagement.

Both countries appear committed to further cooperation. As strategic partners in the region, Iraq and Oman are building a model for balanced, constructive, and future-focused diplomacy.

With every official exchange, Iraq-Oman relations become more robust, setting the stage for long-term collaboration that benefits both sides politically and economically.
