Baghdad, Iraq – The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) reported that the Iraqi Consulate in Istanbul was shot at by unidentified individuals. According to a statement, the incident occurred around 9:00 PM on Friday when individuals on a motorcycle fired eight rounds from a Kalashnikov rifle at the consulate’s exterior before fleeing the scene.
Following the attack, the Iraqi Consul General and consulate staff promptly arrived to assess the situation. Turkish security forces quickly secured the area and initiated an investigation, collecting evidence with the presence of Iraqi diplomatic representatives.
MOFA emphasized its continued cooperation with Turkish authorities to determine the details of the attack and ensure the perpetrators are held accountable. The ministry also praised the prompt response of Turkish security forces and the actions taken to ensure safety.
