Erbil Tourism and Safety See Growth During Eid

Erbil Eid tourism experienced a notable rise during the recent holiday period, attracting a large number of visitors to the region’s popular sites. Over 89,000 tourists explored Erbil’s tourist areas, contributing significantly to the local economy and showcasing the city’s appeal as a travel destination.

Alongside the increase in visitors, local authorities took strict measures to ensure public health and safety. Officials arrested 15 butchers and closed 27 food and meat shops for violating health regulations. These actions aimed to protect residents and tourists from potential food safety risks during the busy holiday season.

The authorities also seized four animal transport vehicles to prevent the spread of diseases. Furthermore, municipal police shut down four butcher shops in the Garda Rasha village to combat the risk of dengue fever, demonstrating a proactive approach to public health concerns.

Erbil Eid tourism also brought challenges related to security and accidents. Police registered 42 crimes during the holiday period. They solved 41 cases and continued investigating one, showing active law enforcement efforts to maintain order.

Traffic accidents remained a concern, with 17 incidents resulting in nine injuries and one fatality. The Erbil Traffic Directorate remains focused on improving road safety through awareness campaigns and enforcement.

Additionally, the Civil Defense Directorate responded to 16 fires, fortunately with no casualties. Emergency services worked tirelessly to protect both locals and visitors from harm.

Medical facilities experienced a high influx of patients, with over 6,500 visits during the holidays. Hospitals treated 305 emergency cases and conducted 81 surgeries. They also supported 383 kidney dialysis sessions. Meanwhile, 71 babies were born, adding to the region’s growing population.

Environmental teams managed to collect and dispose of 1,124 tons of animal waste, maintaining cleanliness in public spaces frequented by visitors. Parks attracted a remarkable number of tourists, with 108,000 visiting various gardens and 30,000 enjoying Sami Abdulrahman Park alone.

During this period, 1,461 animals were sacrificed, including 270 large and 1,191 small animals, in accordance with Eid al-Adha traditions.

Overall, Erbil Eid tourism demonstrated strong growth while local authorities balanced safety, health, and environmental concerns effectively. This balance ensures the city remains an attractive and safe destination for future visitors.
