Ceasefire Sparks Celebrations in Baghdad as Tensions Pause

Hundreds gathered in Baghdad’s Tahrir Square on Wednesday to celebrate a fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran. The announcement quickly drew crowds, who waved flags and chanted slogans. Many described the development as a major political victory for Iran and its allies.

The atmosphere felt energetic and highly charged. Supporters filled the square with chants and public speeches. Many participants expressed strong support for Iran and regional armed groups. At the same time, others framed the moment as a turning point after weeks of intense escalation.

One protester praised the outcome and called it a victory for Shiite groups across the region. Another participant congratulated Iran and allied factions for what he described as resilience. Meanwhile, several voices credited regional resistance groups for shaping the outcome on the ground.

In addition, some attendees delivered more pointed political statements. They criticized recent U.S. and Israeli actions and framed the ceasefire as a setback for their influence. Others emphasized unity among groups in Iraq, Lebanon, and Yemen. The crowd responded with loud chants and applause throughout the gathering.

The agreement introduces a temporary pause in hostilities for 14 days. It also includes initial steps toward reopening the Strait of Hormuz. This critical waterway had faced major disruptions during the recent conflict. As a result, global shipping and energy markets experienced significant pressure.

Moreover, officials expect diplomatic talks to follow the fragile ceasefire. Pakistan has reportedly taken on a mediation role. These talks aim to prevent further escalation and build a longer-term agreement. However, uncertainty still surrounds the outcome of these negotiations.

The conflict began in late February after U.S. and Israeli strikes targeted Iranian positions. In response, Iran launched missile and drone attacks across multiple locations. The situation quickly escalated into a broader regional confrontation. Consequently, tensions rose sharply across the Middle East.

Now, this fragile ceasefire offers a brief window for diplomacy. However, analysts warn that the situation remains unstable. Any breakdown in talks could quickly reignite hostilities. Therefore, regional and global observers continue to monitor developments closely.
