Iraqi Embassy Coordinates Return of Immigrants, Strengthens Ties with Libya

The Iraqi Embassy coordinates return of immigrants, marking a new chapter in Iraqi-Libyan cooperation. On Wednesday, Ahmed Al-Sahaf, the Charge d’Affaires of the Iraqi Embassy in Libya, announced the return of 60 Iraqi nationals. He confirmed ongoing efforts to facilitate the return of seven more.

During a meeting in Tripoli, Al-Sahaf spoke with Libya’s acting Foreign Minister, Taher Al-Baour. They met at the Foreign Ministry headquarters. The two officials explored avenues to deepen cooperation between Iraq and Libya. Discussions focused on politics, security, education, and economic matters.

Al-Sahaf emphasized Iraq’s commitment to the rights of its citizens. He stated that both countries are collaborating to address illegal migration issues. Their aim is to align with international laws while respecting local regulations.

They also discussed upcoming agreements between the two nations. These memoranda of understanding will cover various fields. Legal and technical steps are currently underway to finalize them. Once complete, these deals will boost bilateral efforts in several sectors.

Moreover, the meeting also touched on reviving the Iraqi-Libyan Joint Committee. Importantly, this committee serves as a key platform for official collaboration. Consequently, both sides see its activation as essential for future cooperation.

In addition, Al-Sahaf highlighted Iraq’s role in supporting Libya’s stability. He further reaffirmed Baghdad’s backing for Libya’s unity and sovereignty. Furthermore, Iraq supports the political process that aims to secure peace in the region.

On his part, Al-Baour welcomed Iraq’s involvement. Notably, he offered Libya’s full support for the Joint Committee’s work. He also expressed willingness to attend its sessions, even if held in Baghdad. Additionally, Al-Baour praised Iraq’s ongoing diplomatic support for Libya.

As a result, the leaders stressed the need for continued engagement. They agreed to strengthen consular services for Iraqis in Libya. Moving forward, both ministries will enhance cooperation in regional forums.
