UN Special Representative Urges Unity and Stability for Iraq’s Future

Baghdad, Iraq – The UN Special Representative in Iraq, Mohammed Al-Hassan, emphasized that Iraq has undergone significant transformation and that the progress achieved must be safeguarded. Speaking at a recent forum in Sulaymaniyah, he stated that Iraq has reached a level of development where it no longer requires a UN mission — a sign of the country’s growing stability and self-reliance.

Al-Hassan also highlighted the importance of upcoming elections, calling them a key constitutional responsibility that will support continued development and reform. He underlined that regional stability is closely tied to Iraq’s own.

Reflecting on the broader region, he stressed that it’s time for the people of the Middle East to experience peace and stability, after years of conflict, occupation, and foreign interference. He recalled the tragedies of recent years — including the killing of children in Iraq and Gaza, and the horrific treatment of minority women by extremist groups — describing these acts as inhumane and unacceptable.

He concluded with a call for unity, urging all parties to come together to shape a new and hopeful future.
