Reopening Service Roads in Najaf Boosts Traffic Flow

The Reopening Service Roads in Najaf initiative has launched with strong momentum. Najaf’s Traffic Directorate, in collaboration with the municipality and the provincial government, opened several service roads to reduce traffic congestion across the city.

Colonel Wissam Shaheed Jassem Al-Kaabi, head of the Najaf Traffic Directorate, confirmed the campaign’s broad scope. Authorities reopened many service roads that had remained closed for years. This action focused especially on easing traffic along the Najaf–Kufa route, a vital connector in the region.

The reopening effort targets highly populated and frequently congested areas. This move marks a critical step toward ending long-standing bottlenecks in the city’s road network. Authorities prioritized routes near educational institutions and public service centers.

Traffic pressure during morning and evening peak hours has become a major concern. Opening these blocked service roads directly helps reduce that strain. Al-Kaabi emphasized that coordination continues with all relevant authorities to restore the remaining closed sections.

The most critical part still under work remains the Najaf–Kufa service road, due to its high strategic value. This road serves many vital institutions and connects key urban zones. Officials consider it a major artery for the province’s transport system.

Meanwhile, Bashar Al-Sudani, media director for the Najaf Municipality, announced another key measure. The municipality started legal actions against violators encroaching on the reopened roads. Notices have already gone out to those who breached road boundaries.

Municipal authorities also revealed a detailed plan to rehabilitate several key streets. The Najaf–Kufa service road lies at the center of these plans. Work will begin from the Thawrat Al-Ishreen overpasses and extend to the Al-Sadr Medical City overpasses.

Governorate officials issued clear orders to remove all obstacles along these roads. Their goal remains to reopen streets fully and prepare them for comprehensive redevelopment. The Reopening Service Roads in Najaf project aims to improve transportation, ease movement, and enhance urban infrastructure. With ongoing efforts and active cooperation, the city is stepping into a smoother and more connected future.
