Water Levels Rise in Euphrates and Haditha Lake After Heavy Rains

Water levels in the Euphrates River and Haditha Lake have risen significantly after recent heavy rains. Authorities have taken action to manage the flow and direct part of the water to Habbaniyah Lake. This step aims to improve tourism and environmental conditions in the region.

The Director of Anbar’s Water Resources, Jamal Odeh Samir, confirmed that heavy rainfall in recent days caused an increase in water levels. The surge was mainly due to runoff from valleys such as Houran, Zaghdan, and Hajlan, along with inflows to the Haditha Dam.

Officials have responded swiftly by managing the water efficiently. Teams from the Water Resources Department, including those responsible for river dredging in Ramadi, have worked to control the flood wave. Their coordinated efforts have helped prevent damage to agricultural lands and residential areas.

A major decision was made to store excess water at Ramadi Dam. Authorities then directed a portion of it toward Habbaniyah Lake to enhance its tourism potential and environmental health. This measure, approved by the National Center for Water Resources Management, is expected to boost local economic and ecological conditions.

According to officials, water releases toward Habbaniyah Lake will continue in the coming days. At the same time, outflows from Haditha Dam will be reduced to conserve water for the upcoming summer season. This strategic move aims to maintain stable water supplies for irrigation and other essential uses.

With these actions, authorities have ensured that the heavy rainfall benefits the region without causing harm. Water management remains a key priority, and further adjustments will be made based on weather conditions and resource availability. The ongoing effort to improve Habbaniyah Lake will support both tourism and environmental sustainability in the area.
