Baghdad, Iraq – The Prime Minister has ordered an investigation regarding a dispute over the headquarters allocated to the “Nakheel Organization” in Baghdad. This decision follows claims that Baghdad Municipality encroached on the organization’s designated property. Officials stress the need for transparency and fair resolution in such matters.
The Director General of the Non-Governmental Organizations Department, Ashraf Al-Dahan, confirmed the formation of a special committee. The Prime Minister assigned this task to ensure proper handling of the complaint. The investigation team includes Ali Razouqi, Deputy Director of the Prime Minister’s Office, along with Legal Advisor Ali Fawzi and Ashraf Al-Dahan himself.
According to the investigation’s findings, the Nakheel Organization had not properly specified the requested property as a heritage site in its application. Additionally, it had not followed up with Baghdad Municipality to complete the necessary procedures. These factors contributed to the dispute over the location.
As a result, the investigative committee recommended that the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities proceed with allocating a suitable property. The committee urged swift action to complete the legal procedures. Officials emphasize that non-governmental organizations play a vital role in social development and should receive proper support.
After reviewing the case, the committee recommended closing the administrative investigation. Citing legal provisions, they found no wrongdoing in the matter. The decision aligns with the State Employee Discipline Law, which governs administrative conduct.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting civil society organizations. He directed all government bodies to facilitate the work of NGOs across Iraq. Authorities stress the importance of collaboration to enhance social initiatives and preserve cultural heritage.
Moving forward, officials hope that improved coordination will prevent similar disputes. They emphasize that proper legal procedures and government support will help NGOs operate more effectively.
