Marco Rubio and PM Mohammed al-Sudani Discuss Energy, Security, and Counterterrorism

Baghdad, Iraq- The U.S. Secretary of State held discussions with the Iraqi Prime Minister on Tuesday, focusing on Iraq’s energy self-sufficiency, regional stability, and efforts to counter the threat of the Islamic State, according to a State Department spokesperson.

Both leaders emphasized the importance of Iraq achieving energy independence, reopening the Iraq-Turkey Pipeline without delay, and honoring contractual agreements with American companies to attract further investment.

Their conversation also covered the strategic partnership between the two countries, highlighting the significance of Iraq’s sovereignty and long-term stability. They addressed concerns regarding external influence in the region and reaffirmed their shared commitment to preventing an Islamic State resurgence that could threaten Iraq and its neighbors.
