PM Mohammed Sudani Addresses Security, Dialogue, and Development at Baghdad Conference

Baghdad, Iraq- Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced at the Baghdad Dialogue Conference that Iraq has successfully concluded the mission of the US-led Global Coalition. Speaking at the Baghdad International Dialogue Conference, the Prime Minister stated that the transition has been achieved through responsible dialogue, shifting the focus to bilateral relations and security coordination with participating countries.

The Prime Minister emphasized Iraq’s commitment to regional dialogue, citing its role in facilitating discussions between Saudi Arabia and Iran. He reaffirmed Iraq’s dedication to supporting talks that foster stability and understanding in the region. He acknowledged the challenges of maintaining a balanced foreign policy, navigating competing narratives and political pressures while preserving Iraq’s neutrality.

Addressing the situation in Gaza, the Prime Minister described recent events as a critical point in the ongoing struggle to deny Palestinian rights to life, land, and existence, following a history of displacement and loss of identity. He reiterated Iraq’s unwavering support for Palestinian rights.

On the economic front, the Prime Minister highlighted Iraq’s commitment to strategic projects, including the Development Road initiative. He described it as an opportunity for integration and partnership with neighboring and regional countries, strengthening Iraq’s historical, economic, and cultural position. He stressed the importance of economic integration with neighboring and allied nations, calling it a practical solution to economic challenges rather than just a slogan. He urged continued dialogue and cooperation to promote regional economic growth and stability.

The Baghdad International Dialogue Conference, themed “Communication for Development and Regional Stability,” runs from February 22-23, 2025. Discussions encompass a range of critical issues, including Iraq’s Development Road project, its security role, and the influence of intellectual elites. The second day of the conference will delve into geopolitical shifts, economic cooperation, energy corridors, and regional integration, with specific sessions focused on Syria’s future and global power competition in the Middle East.
