Strengthening National Stability: Baghdad and Erbil Discuss Budget and Resource Management

On Monday, Iraq’s First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandlawi, met with Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani in Baghdad. The meeting focused on federal-regional relations and discussed vital national issues. Key topics included the federal budget, natural resource management, and broader security concerns.

Al-Mandlawi emphasized the importance of high-level coordination between Baghdad and Erbil. He noted that both sides must work closely to address pressing economic and security challenges. He stressed that the budget file and constitutional management of natural resources remain urgent priorities.

This meeting occurred in the presence of several members of parliament. All participants agreed that Iraq needs unified efforts to overcome current crises. They believe political and administrative cooperation is essential for strengthening national stability.

During the discussion, Al-Mandlawi highlighted the urgent need for economic reform. He called for joint action to implement financial strategies that reflect the constitution. Barzani expressed support for these goals and reiterated the region’s willingness to cooperate with Baghdad.

Moreover, both leaders stressed the value of restoring public trust. Al-Mandlawi stated that solving federal–regional disputes will help restore citizens’ confidence. He explained that cooperation will build stronger institutions across Iraq, including in the Kurdistan Region.

Al-Mandlawi also underlined the need for structural reform. He said economic development depends on shared goals and equal responsibilities between both governments. He warned that political instability could undermine national progress if leaders fail to act.

In response, Barzani welcomed continued dialogue with Baghdad. Furthermore, he said strong federal–regional ties will support long-term peace and prosperity. Consequently, both sides agreed that coordination must continue through all levels of government.

Ultimately, the meeting reflected a shared vision for a more stable Iraq. Moreover, leaders from Baghdad and Erbil committed to overcoming internal divisions. Their discussions reaffirmed a common desire for strengthening national stability.

With Iraq facing ongoing economic and security challenges, such cooperation marks a critical step forward. Therefore, strengthening national stability now depends on transparent action, consistent dialogue, and constitutional governance. Moving forward, both sides appear ready to work together.
