Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani visited the Al-Jawahiri City project west of Baghdad on Saturday. He toured the site to check on progress in the government’s major housing program. This initiative started in December 2023 and focuses on building new housing cities.
The Prime Minister’s media office shared a statement, according to the statement, the Prime Minister reviewed construction stages and met with workers at the site. Moreover, he listened closely to the challenges slowing down the project. Then, he ordered immediate action to fix these problems. Additionally, he praised the efforts of the New Cities Authority and the Ministry of Construction. Both have worked hard to ease procedures and improve coordination. As a result, this support helps companies focus on construction and timely delivery.
Al-Sudani explained the government’s decision to build new housing cities carefully. They studied the housing crisis and citizens’ needs before starting this project. The new housing cities mainly serve middle-income families. However, they also set aside housing units for low-income groups.
The Prime Minister highlighted key aspects of the new housing cities. First, the cities will include all essential public, commercial, and economic services. Second, the government adopted a simple economic model. It fits citizens’ needs in design, housing types, prices, and payment plans. Third, the projects faced major obstacles, especially around land allocation and property rights. This required close cooperation between ministries and governorates.
Furthermore, Al-Sudani instructed all relevant authorities to prepare a unified service plan. This plan covers electricity, communications, roads, and national infrastructure. The government stresses strict compliance with technical and urban housing standards. It also demands that the construction company speeds up work. Modern technologies and innovations should guide the building process.
Additionally, The Prime Minister emphasized environmental standards too. The project must protect green spaces and include accommodations for persons with disabilities. The design follows smart city principles to build a modern, future-ready urban area.
In conclusion, the new housing cities project stands as a vital solution to Iraq’s housing challenges. It promises integrated services, accessibility, and sustainability. This ambitious effort aims to improve living conditions and create vibrant urban communities. The government continues to support and monitor progress closely to achieve these goals.
