Baghdad, Iraq- Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani received an official invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin to attend the 80th anniversary celebrations of the victory over Nazism, scheduled for May. The invitation was delivered by Russian Minister of Energy, Sergei Tsivlev, during a meeting with the Prime Minister on Wednesday.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s media office, the meeting also focused on discussions regarding joint cooperation between Iraq and Russia, particularly in the energy and oil sectors. The Prime Minister expressed Iraq’s desire to expand cooperation with Russia in various fields, especially in developing partnerships and sharing expertise in artificial intelligence.
Tsivlev highlighted the progress made during the tenth session of the Iraqi-Russian Higher Committee held in Baghdad, which he led as head of the Russian delegation. He noted the successful signing of memoranda of understanding and agreements in areas such as maritime transport, health, and oil, as well as increased collaboration at the level of the chambers of commerce. Tsivlev emphasized his country’s government’s interest in further enhancing the partnership between Iraq and Russia in various sectors of mutual interest.
