President Aoun Calls for Arab Unity, Praises Iraq’s Support to Lebanon

Baghdad — In a significant statement during his visit to Iraq, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun expressed strong appreciation for Iraq’s unwavering support. His comments came during a joint press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani on Sunday. President Aoun emphasized the urgent need for stronger national unity and regional cooperation.

Strengthening Arab unity for stability became the central theme of Aoun’s address. He made it clear that Lebanon is striving to protect civil peace while defending national sovereignty. Aoun reiterated, “We must preserve sovereignty without creating conflict, and maintain peace without compromising national principles.”

Citing a speech from November by Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, Aoun noted that the cleric’s message remains vital. He described it as a practical roadmap for Lebanon’s future. According to Aoun, the speech tackled Lebanon’s internal crisis through wisdom and long-term thinking.

Aoun stated, “Sayyid Al-Sistani’s words guide us to build a state on justice, transparency, and accountability.” He highlighted the need for integrity in governance and full respect for the law. Aoun also demanded that arms be kept only within the state’s authority.

Furthermore, Aoun stressed the importance of collaborative efforts across the Arab world. “Arab nations need systems that build cooperation, deliver prosperity, and reduce instability,” he said.

The Lebanese president went on to thank Iraq for its consistent and wide-ranging assistance. This support, he explained, has helped Lebanon during difficult periods. Iraq’s contributions in energy, humanitarian relief, and economic aid were particularly appreciated.

He concluded his remarks by reaffirming Lebanon’s desire to deepen ties with Iraq. “We welcome stronger bonds and future cooperation with our Iraqi brothers,” Aoun affirmed.

Throughout his speech, Aoun underscored the shared regional vision. Strengthening Arab unity for stability was not only a message but also a call to action. As Lebanon navigates internal challenges, it looks outward—especially toward Iraq—as a vital partner.

In summary, President Aoun’s remarks set a hopeful tone. His focus on strengthening Arab unity for stability reflects a broader regional aspiration for peace and growth.
