Missile Strike on Erbil Base Kills Six Peshmerga Forces, Injures Dozens Amid Escalation

The Erbil missile strike shocked the Kurdistan Region early Tuesday. The Strike killed six Peshmerga fighters. The Erbil missile strike also injured 30 others in Erbil province. Officials confirmed the attack targeted Area Command One headquarters in Soran.

The Peshmerga Ministry said Iranian ballistic missiles hit the military site during the early morning hours. Rescue teams reached the base quickly after the explosions. Medical teams treated the wounded on site. They later transferred several injured fighters to hospitals in Erbil.

Authorities said the attack followed days of escalating drone and missile activity. They reported more than ten similar incidents over recent weeks. Security officials noted a sharp rise in cross-border strikes. They also said this attack marked a direct attribution to Iranian missiles.

The ministry condemned the attack strongly. It called the strike a serious escalation against its forces. It also said security units will defend the region from further aggression. Leaders urged unity among defense units during the ongoing tensions.

Kurdish officials reaffirmed their policy of neutrality. They said the region continues to prioritize stability and dialogue. They also rejected claims linking the Kurdistan Region to external armed activities. Officials stressed that no group operates cross-border missions from its territory.

Earlier reports indicated repeated attacks from armed factions inside Iraq. Security sources linked several of these groups to Iran-aligned networks. Many of these factions operate under the Popular Mobilization Forces structure. They also maintain political influence within Iraq’s institutions.

Regional authorities insisted they do not support any armed escalation. They called for respect for the region’s borders and political stance. They also rejected accusations involving foreign intelligence operations or opposition group activity. Officials said such claims create unnecessary tension.

The Erbil missile strike triggered renewed diplomatic concerns across Iraq. The Peshmerga Ministry called on Baghdad to take stronger control measures. It urged action against armed groups carrying out cross-border attacks. It also asked international partners to respond to repeated violations.

Officials in Baghdad acknowledged challenges in controlling armed factions. They said these groups hold military strength and political representation. They also confirmed limited government ability to fully restrict their operations. This situation continues to complicate internal security efforts.

The Peshmerga Ministry expressed condolences to the families of the victims. It also wished a quick recovery for those injured. Leaders described the attack as a violation of regional stability. They warned that continued escalation could expand instability further.

Security forces remain on high alert across Erbil province. Investigations continue into missile launch locations and timing. Officials expect more updates as intelligence assessments progress. The situation remains tense as regional actors monitor developments closely.

The Erbil missile strike continues to shape discussions on regional security. Leaders warn that repeated attacks could deepen instability across northern Iraq.
