On Thursday, Hussein met with NATO officials at the alliance’s Joint Command Headquarters in Naples. The Iraqi delegation received a formal welcome from Admiral Stuart B. Muench, the Commander-in-Chief of the Joint Command.
Italian Ambassador to Baghdad Nicola Fontana also attended the meeting, along with several top NATO leaders. The discussions highlighted NATO’s ongoing commitment to strengthening ties with Iraq. Admiral Muench congratulated Hussein on Iraq’s National Day and emphasized the importance of deepening the partnership.
During the meeting, both parties explored ways to enhance military cooperation. NATO reaffirmed its support for Iraqi security and defense institutions. In particular, the alliance expressed its desire to expand joint training and expertise exchange programs with Iraq’s Ministry of Defense.
Fuad Hussein acknowledged the positive developments in Iraq-NATO relations. He expressed gratitude for NATO’s assistance and welcomed continued collaboration. He also confirmed the Iraqi government’s readiness to provide full support for future joint efforts.
