Iraq’s Ministry of Education Confirms Start of 2025 School Year

Iraq’s Ministry of Education has confirmed that preparations for the 2025–2026 academic year are now complete. On Sunday, the ministry announced that classes will start on September 21 as planned. This decision ends any uncertainty surrounding the new school year’s schedule.

According to ministry spokesperson Karim al-Sayyid, the education authorities have worked tirelessly during the summer break. They focused on supplying schools with necessary materials and assigning teachers based on each school’s requirements. Al-Sayyid also highlighted the improvements made to school facilities across Baghdad and other governorates.

The preparation process covered many areas. These include upgrading classrooms, restrooms, playgrounds, water tanks, and school yards. The ministry took a comprehensive approach to ensure schools are ready for students and staff alike. “We have completed work on educational buildings and essential amenities,” al-Sayyid said.

In addition, several new school construction projects are nearing completion. These efforts form part of the government’s larger plan to enhance the education sector throughout Iraq. The ministry aims to provide better learning environments for all students, especially in underserved areas.

Textbook printing is almost finished, with most copies already delivered to schools. According to al-Sayyid, this early distribution allows schools to prepare for student handouts before classes officially begin. This step is vital to ensure smooth operations on the first day of school.

The ministry also confirmed that staff must report by September 1. This deadline gives teachers enough time to get ready for the upcoming year. Moreover, second-round exams for graduating students have already been announced, providing clarity for students and parents alike.

In summary, Iraq’s Ministry of Education has completed all key preparations for the 2025–2026 academic year. Thanks to careful planning and coordination, schools across the country will open their doors as scheduled. The ministry’s commitment aims to provide a safe, well-equipped, and organized learning environment for all Iraqi students.
