Iraq’s Military Command Denies Kurdistan’s Claims Over Erbil Drone Strike

Baghdad – Iraq’s military command firmly rejected accusations made by the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Interior on Saturday. The ministry blamed an Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) faction for a drone strike near Erbil. However, Iraq’s military command dismissed these claims as “unacceptable” and “baseless.” Sabah Al-Numan, the spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, urged the Kurdistan Region to provide any evidence through official channels. He emphasized the importance of proper procedures over public statements.

However, Al-Numan warned that the federal government would respond decisively to any threat against Iraq’s security. He explained that the country currently faces many challenges that require cooperation through formal, institutional means. Al-Numan argued that making public accusations only helps malicious actors. Such claims risk undermining the efforts of security forces and destabilizing the entire country.

The statement from Iraq’s military command came after the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Interior accused a PMF-linked group of orchestrating the drone strike near Erbil. The ministry claimed the attack aimed to create instability and confusion in the region. Nevertheless, they insists that these accusations lack proof and should not be made publicly without official evidence.

Iraq’s military command stressed that handling such sensitive matters requires calm and cooperation. It urged all parties to avoid escalating tensions through media claims. Instead, it called for submitting any findings to the federal government through the proper legal and institutional frameworks. This approach, Al-Numan said, would strengthen Iraq’s national security rather than weaken it.

Additionally, In a time of heightened regional tensions, command reminded the public that unity and trust among security forces and local authorities remain vital. It highlighted that false accusations and politicization of security incidents only harm Iraq’s stability. Moving forward, the government plans to maintain vigilance and act firmly against any threats.

Overall, Iraq’s military command dismissed the Kurdistan Ministry’s allegations and stressed the need for evidence-based communication. It called for cooperation between all involved parties to protect Iraq’s security and sovereignty.
