Iraqi Tribal Leaders Demand an End to Government Deadlock

Iraqi tribal leaders demand an urgent resolution to the ongoing government formation deadlock in Baghdad. At a high-level conference of the Abbadeh Tribe’s General Diwan, leaders called on political blocs, especially the Coordination Framework, to appoint a Prime Minister immediately.

Sheikh Adel al-Assad, head of the Abbadeh Tribe, delivered a statement on behalf of all tribal leaders. He emphasized that Iraq’s tribes are united to address the nation’s challenges and rising regional tensions. Moreover, the statement highlighted the historical responsibility of Iraq’s tribes to protect national stability.

The tribal assembly outlined a seven-point declaration addressing key political and security concerns. First, they urged the Coordination Framework to finalize government formation and select a Prime Minister without delay. Second, they warned that continued political deadlock weakens the state and leaves security forces vulnerable to attacks.

Third, they reaffirmed full support for state institutions, the rule of law, and Iraq’s sovereignty. Additionally, the tribes declared Iraq’s territorial and social unity a “red line,” pledging to prevent internal strife and division. Fourth, they emphasized the role of the tribes as the ultimate protectors of national cohesion.

Fifth, tribal leaders expressed support for an independent judiciary to ensure constitutional compliance and statutory deadlines. Sixth, they appealed to the Parliamentary Presidency to convene immediately and elect the President of the Republic, completing all remaining constitutional obligations.

Seventh, they condemned aggression against Iran, Lebanon, and Arab nations, urging an immediate halt to regional hostilities and rejecting agendas that aim to fragment the region.

Sheikh Adel al-Assad addressed Iraq’s political leaders directly, stating: “Iraq is a sacred trust, and the people’s patience is not infinite. Leaders must act responsibly or step aside.” He added that history will hold accountable those who fail in their national duty.

In conclusion, Iraqi tribal leaders demand decisive action from political blocs to break the deadlock. They stressed that restoring governance, protecting national unity, and upholding sovereignty are urgent priorities. Consequently, tribes call on leaders to prioritize Iraq’s interests above all else to ensure stability and security.
