Iraq, UAE Talks Focus on Gulf Attacks and Regional Security

Iraq, UAE discuss attacks targeting Gulf States in a high-level phone call between their foreign ministers. Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and his Emirati counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan reviewed regional developments. Moreover, they focused on the Gulf Cooperation Council’s statement criticizing strikes launched from Iraqi territory against Gulf countries and Jordan.

Both ministers reaffirmed Iraq’s position opposing the use of its land to launch attacks on neighboring nations. Consequently, Baghdad emphasized its commitment to state sovereignty, regional security, and stability. The discussion also highlighted Iraq’s efforts to prevent escalation and maintain diplomatic relations.

The conversation covered ongoing regional tensions and potential negotiations to reach a ceasefire. Additionally, both sides exchanged views on ways to reduce hostilities and preserve stability across the Gulf. Sheikh Abdullah stressed the UAE’s condemnation of recent attacks, including the drone strike on Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani’s residence in Duhok.

Iraq, UAE discuss attacks in the context of broader regional security concerns. The ministers noted that coordinated measures are necessary to prevent future incidents and protect civilian populations. Furthermore, they underlined the importance of communication between Baghdad and the Gulf states to avoid misunderstandings.

On Wednesday, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Jordan issued a joint statement urging Iraq to take measures against attacks originating from its territory. They emphasized that this step is essential to preserve relations and prevent further escalation.

Since the outbreak of the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran on February 28, Iraqi factions allied with Iran have claimed responsibility for multiple strikes on U.S. positions in the region. Consequently, Baghdad faces pressure to control armed groups operating within its borders. The ministers agreed that strong oversight and diplomacy are critical to maintain stability.

In conclusion, Iraq, UAE discuss attacks underscore Baghdad’s commitment to regional security. The talks highlight Iraq’s opposition to cross-border strikes, support for diplomatic solutions, and cooperation with Gulf partners. Immediate steps aim to ensure peace, prevent escalation, and protect relations in the region.
