Iraq-Jordan Cooperation Strengthens at UN Ocean Conference with Focus on Humanitarian Aid and Climate Action

Baghdad – The Iraq-Jordan cooperation took center stage on Sunday as Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid met Jordanian King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein. Their meeting happened on the sidelines of the Third United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice, France. From the start, both leaders emphasized the importance of urging the international community to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. This key phrase, Iraq-Jordan cooperation, highlights the close and growing ties between the two countries.

During the meeting, attended by senior officials from both nations, including Deputy Prime Minister Fuad Hussein and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen and develop their relations. They focused on expanding cooperation and trade exchanges that benefit both the Iraqi and Jordanian peoples. Their dialogue clearly showed a commitment to enhancing the Iraq-Jordan cooperation in multiple fields.

President Rashid also stressed the urgent need for joint efforts to fight climate change and protect biodiversity. He highlighted the importance of reducing pollution in oceans and water resources. Furthermore, he supported ongoing efforts to achieve the United Nations’ sustainable development goals. The Third UN Ocean Conference provided a platform for discussing these critical environmental challenges.

The leaders also discussed the region’s security and stability. They agreed that supporting the Palestinian people is essential for peace. Both called on the international community to guarantee the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. President Rashid underlined this point firmly during the talks.

King Abdullah II reaffirmed Jordan’s dedication to expanding the Iraq-Jordan cooperation. He emphasized the importance of building on the results of the recent Arab Summit in Baghdad. The King also expressed concern about the escalation in the West Bank and urged for peaceful solutions.

To close the meeting on a lighter note, President Rashid congratulated King Abdullah II on Jordan’s national football team qualifying for the World Cup. This gesture reflected the warm and friendly relations between the two leaders.
