Iraq Inaugurates 50MW Caterpillar Power Station at Baiji Refinery

Iraq inaugurates 50MW Caterpillar power station at the country’s largest oil refinery, marking a major step in energy security. The new power plant was launched at Baiji Refinery, around 180 kilometers north of Baghdad. This facility represents a crucial investment in Iraq’s energy and industrial future.

Iraqi technical experts and Iratrac, Caterpillar’s exclusive distributor in Iraq, developed the new integrated system. Moreover, the power station features diesel generator sets, fuel storage tanks, and related systems. These elements together form a complete turnkey project, designed to supply reliable electricity directly to the refinery’s operations.

Significantly, the station will enable the production of 250,000 tons of oils and asphalt each year. In addition, it will provide 600,000 tons of multi-grade asphalt, along with engine oils, turbine oils, and heavy oils. Consequently, this development strengthens Iraq’s ability to meet both domestic and industrial demands.

The project was inaugurated in the presence of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, Minister of Oil Hayyan Abdul Ghani, and Undersecretary of Oil Adnan Mahmoud Hammoud. Their attendance highlights the government’s commitment to expanding Iraq’s energy infrastructure and supporting industrial recovery.

Furthermore, the Baiji Refinery remains a strategic hub for the country’s oil industry. With this new Caterpillar power station, the refinery gains the ability to maintain stable operations, even under challenging conditions. Therefore, the launch not only supports energy reliability but also accelerates industrial reconstruction across Iraq.

The Caterpillar power station, supplied by Iratrac, underlines the importance of international cooperation in Iraq’s growth. At the same time, the reliance on local technical expertise demonstrates Iraq’s growing capacity for independent development. As Iraq strengthens its infrastructure, projects like this will play a pivotal role in shaping its economic future.

Ultimately, Iraq inaugurates 50MW Caterpillar power station as part of its wider strategy to modernize refineries and boost production. This initiative reflects both ambition and determination to secure energy independence. With continued investment, Iraq can expand its industrial base, reduce bottlenecks, and drive sustainable economic progress.
