Iraq Gold Prices Fall Sharply Across Baghdad and Erbil Markets

Gold prices declined in Baghdad and Erbil as local markets recorded lower rates across major categories. The latest market movement placed gold near 900,000 Iraqi dinars per mithqal in both cities. A mithqal equals five grams.

In Baghdad, traders on Al-Nahr Street set the selling price for 21-carat Gulf, Turkish, and European gold at 860,000 dinars per mithqal. Meanwhile, buyers offered 856,000 dinars for the same type.

The decline marked a clear drop from the previous market level of 882,000 dinars. Therefore, the movement showed weaker demand or softer pricing pressure in the capital.

Iraq’s gold prices also moved lower for locally made gold. Baghdad traders set 21-carat Iraqi gold at 830,000 dinars per mithqal. At the same time, buyers offered 826,000 dinars.

Moreover, jewelry shops showed small differences in prices across the capital. Some stores offered 21-carat Gulf gold between 860,000 and 870,000 dinars per mithqal.

In comparison, Iraqi gold stayed cheaper in Baghdad’s retail market. Jewelry shops offered 21-carat Iraqi gold between 830,000 and 840,000 dinars per mithqal.

As a result, buyers still saw a price gap between imported gold and Iraqi gold. This gap often reflects quality, demand, origin, and shop pricing policies.

In Erbil, gold prices remained higher than in several Baghdad categories. Traders priced 22-carat gold at 917,000 dinars per mithqal.

Additionally, Erbil traders listed 21-carat gold at 875,000 dinars per mithqal. They also set 18-carat gold at 751,000 dinars per mithqal.

These figures showed different price levels between Baghdad and Erbil. However, both markets continued to follow the same general direction.

Gold buyers usually watch daily movements before making large purchases. Therefore, any drop can encourage some customers to return to jewelry shops.

However, traders may still face cautious demand. Many families delay gold purchases when prices remain high compared with household income.

Furthermore, gold plays an important role in Iraq’s local markets. People buy it for weddings, savings, gifts, and protection against currency pressure.

Because of that, even small price changes can affect consumer behavior. A lower price may support buying activity, especially in busy commercial areas.

At the same time, shop owners must manage changing prices carefully. They need to protect margins while staying competitive with nearby stores.

Iraq’s gold prices can also move with global market trends. International gold prices, exchange rates, and local demand all shape daily rates.

In addition, currency movements can affect final prices in Iraq. When traders face higher import costs, customers often pay more at jewelry shops.

The latest decline may offer some relief for buyers. Nevertheless, prices remain elevated for many consumers across Baghdad and Erbil.

Going forward, traders will likely monitor global bullion prices and local demand. They will also watch exchange market changes before adjusting shop prices.

For now, Iraq’s gold prices show a softer tone in major markets. The drop may support limited buying, but high costs could still slow demand.
