Iraq Anti-Corruption Campaign Gains Momentum as Parliament Backs Wider Crackdown

The Iraq anti-corruption campaign received fresh political backing on Sunday after Parliament’s Integrity Committee endorsed the government’s ongoing crackdown. Committee members urged investigators to continue their work without political interference. They also called for authorities to expand investigations across the country. The latest developments highlight growing efforts to hold senior officials accountable and strengthen public trust.

Committee member Hamed al-Fatlawi described the current investigations as a major turning point. He said the campaign differs from previous efforts because investigators have reached high-ranking political figures. Furthermore, he stressed that authorities continue to protect the confidentiality of ongoing investigations.

Al-Fatlawi explained that investigators have identified additional suspects during the probe. However, officials have not released their identities because the investigations continue. He emphasized that authorities should follow legal procedures while protecting the integrity of each case.

Moreover, Al-Fatlawi urged the government to widen the operation beyond its current scope. He called on judicial authorities to prosecute any governor, director general, or public official convicted of corruption. He also insisted that political affiliation should never influence legal proceedings.

Meanwhile, Iraqi authorities continue to expand the nationwide operation. According to informed sources, security forces have arrested 43 politicians and government officials since the campaign began. Investigators now expect a second phase to target additional senior figures.

The operation gained momentum after authorities arrested former Oil Ministry Undersecretary Adnan al-Jumaili. Officials continue to investigate his case while examining related financial records. The investigation has also opened new leads involving other individuals connected to the case.

In addition, authorities announced major financial seizures linked to the investigation. Officials recovered approximately $10 million in cash. They also seized 31 billion Iraqi dinars, worth roughly $23.5 million. Investigators believe the funds relate to corruption cases currently under review.

The Iraq anti-corruption campaign represents one of the country’s most significant efforts against financial misconduct in recent years. Unlike previous operations, investigators have pursued cases involving influential political figures. As a result, many observers view the campaign as an important test of Iraq’s commitment to accountability.

Furthermore, parliamentary support could strengthen the government’s ability to continue the operation. Committee members argued that independent investigations remain essential for restoring confidence in public institutions. They also warned against any attempts to influence judicial decisions or delay legal proceedings.

Although authorities have made significant progress, officials expect additional developments in the coming weeks. Investigators continue reviewing evidence while pursuing new leads. More arrests could follow if authorities uncover further links to corruption networks.

The Iraq anti-corruption campaign now enters a critical stage. Parliament’s endorsement adds political support to an already expanding operation. As investigations continue, Iraq’s judiciary and security institutions face increasing pressure to ensure every case proceeds fairly, transparently, and without political influence.
