Gas Flaring Reduction Plan Gains Momentum in Iraq

The Gas Flaring Reduction Plan continues to shape Iraq’s future energy strategy. Deputy Prime Minister for Energy and Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani confirmed the ministry’s progress. He announced that Iraq aims to utilize over 70% of its currently flared gas.

Speaking at a forum organized by the American-Iraqi Chamber of Commerce in Baghdad, Abdul Ghani shared vital updates. He said the ministry actively works to increase oil production. At the same time, it pushes hard to capture flared gas to meet national energy needs.

The minister emphasized the government’s long-term energy vision. He explained that the goal is to reach 100% gas utilization before 2030. This plan, known as the Gas Flaring Reduction Plan, seeks to eliminate gas flaring entirely, thereby maximizing energy efficiency.

Abdul Ghani also underlined the strategic importance of this initiative. He stated that this project builds on previous discussions between Iraqi stakeholders and global partners. Many of these partners include leading U.S. energy and investment companies.

According to the minister, these ongoing meetings signal commitment from all sides. Both local and international actors aim to build a strong and collaborative investment climate. He believes these partnerships will strengthen Iraq’s oil and gas sectors.

Moreover, he described Iraq’s oil industry as the backbone of the national economy. Given the global shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy, Iraq’s actions hold significant weight. Abdul Ghani stressed that the ministry has crafted a clear roadmap for the energy sector.

This roadmap includes increasing production, reducing emissions, and transitioning to cleaner energy sources. The Gas Flaring Reduction Plan plays a central role in that strategy.

In conclusion, Iraq continues to invest in critical energy reforms. Through bold planning and international cooperation, the country hopes to create a more sustainable future. The Gas Flaring Reduction Plan marks a decisive step in that direction.
