Baghdad Anti-Corruption Operation Sparks High-Level Arrest Campaign

Baghdad anti-corruption operation entered a critical stage on Saturday as Iraqi security forces launched a sweeping campaign across the capital. The large-scale mission targeted senior political and government figures accused of corruption. Authorities deployed heavily armed units throughout Baghdad, while operations continued inside the Green Zone and several other strategic locations.

According to preliminary reports, the Baghdad anti-corruption operation focuses on several high-ranking officials. The reported targets include political party leaders, members of parliament, and senior government officials. However, authorities have not yet confirmed the identities of those detained.

Initial information indicates that Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi personally ordered the operation. Security forces quickly moved into key government districts after receiving their instructions. Furthermore, checkpoints increased across several parts of Baghdad as security personnel carried out coordinated raids.

Officials have not released the specific charges against those arrested. Likewise, authorities have not confirmed how many individuals remain in custody. Even so, security operations reportedly continued throughout Saturday as forces searched multiple locations.

Prime Minister al-Zaidi is expected to address the public after the operation concludes. His statement will likely provide further details about the arrests and the investigation. Until then, officials continue to withhold additional information while security teams complete their work.

The latest campaign reflects the government’s ongoing effort to combat corruption across Iraq. Since taking office, al-Zaidi has repeatedly promised to hold officials accountable regardless of their political influence. Moreover, his administration has described corruption as one of the country’s biggest challenges.

Government officials have also pledged to strengthen oversight of public institutions. They say stronger accountability will improve public trust and protect state resources. As a result, recent investigations have drawn increased public attention.

Meanwhile, the operation has generated significant political interest across the country. Many observers now await official confirmation regarding the detainees and the allegations against them. Analysts also expect the investigation to influence Iraq’s political landscape in the coming weeks.

The Baghdad anti-corruption operation remains ongoing as authorities continue their investigation. Officials have urged the public to wait for verified information before drawing conclusions. They also emphasized that further announcements will follow once investigators complete their initial procedures.

This remains a developing story. More official details are expected after the prime minister issues a formal statement.
