President Nechirvan Barzani in Political Meetings Highlights Regional Cooperation

The President Nechirvan Barzani political meetings yesterday reflected strong diplomatic activity in Erbil. President Barzani held four high-profile discussions with key international partners. These meetings addressed Iraq’s political process, security challenges, and future cooperation with regional and global allies.

First, President Barzani received Ali Riza Güney, Türkiye’s senior envoy, with an accompanying delegation. They discussed Iraq-Türkiye ties, Erbil-Baghdad relations, and the importance of enhancing trade and security cooperation. Both sides praised the state of bilateral relations and agreed to expand cooperation across multiple fields.

Next, President Barzani met Mohamed Al Hassan, Head of the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI). Their discussion focused on the political process in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. They underlined the importance of dialogue between Erbil and Baghdad to resolve disputes. Both sides agreed that stability in Iraq requires mutual understanding and practical solutions.

The third meeting brought President Barzani together with Admiral Brad Cooper, Commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). Talks centered on military cooperation and the fight against ISIS. President Barzani thanked the United States for its consistent support to the Peshmerga forces. He emphasized Kurdistan’s readiness to deepen cooperation. Admiral Cooper praised the Peshmerga’s sacrifices and reaffirmed U.S. commitment to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Finally, President Barzani met Patrick Durel, France’s Ambassador to Iraq. Their talks highlighted France’s role as a key partner. Both sides stressed the importance of closer cooperation and discussed President Emmanuel Macron’s upcoming visit. They also reviewed Iraq’s general elections and relations with neighboring countries.

Through these four meetings, President Barzani showcased his commitment to strengthening Kurdistan Region’s international partnerships.
