Airstrike Kills 14 PMF Fighters, Including Anbar Commander, in Iraq

Fatalities confirmed officially after an airstrike hit a Popular Mobilization Forces headquarters in Iraq on Tuesday. Officials reported that fourteen fighters died in the strike, including Anbar operations commander Saad Daway al-Baiji. The attack targeted a command headquarters, according to PMF statements, and it immediately triggered widespread reactions across Iraqi security circles. Authorities described the incident as one of the deadliest recent strikes against the group.

The Popular Mobilization Forces strongly condemned the attack and declared mourning for the killed fighters. They also accused a foreign military force of carrying out the airstrike and described it as a violation of Iraq’s sovereignty. In addition, they praised the fallen members and highlighted their commitment to national defense and duty. Fatalities were confirmed officially again as the group emphasized the heavy human loss and its impact on their operations.

Meanwhile, another airstrike injured two fighters from the 47th Brigade at the Al-Jazeera Operations Command in Jurf al-Nasr. That site also faced four separate strikes earlier in the week, which further increased tensions in the area. One medical unit member also suffered injuries during those earlier attacks, which forced local units to raise their alert levels across nearby positions.

Fatalities confirmed officially as analysts tracked a wider escalation pattern since February 28. Airstrikes have targeted PMF positions across multiple Iraqi governorates, resulting in dozens of deaths overall. However, no military force has publicly claimed responsibility for these attacks, which has increased uncertainty and political tension. At the same time, security concerns continue to grow across central and western Iraq.

Separately, Saraya Awliya al-Dam claimed that U.S. and NATO forces withdrew from Victory Base near Baghdad International Airport. However, independent verification of this claim remains unavailable. Officials have also not confirmed any large-scale evacuation of the base.

Fatalities confirmed officially highlights the continuing escalation of violence and instability in Iraq. Security agencies, therefore, continue monitoring developments closely as regional tensions remain high.
