Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Planning Minister, Mohammed Ali Tamim, emphasized that the Development Road Project does not intersect with any other international initiative. He assured that the project will complement global road networks, reducing transportation time and costs.
During a joint meeting with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) delegation, Minister Tamim discussed linking the project route at the Iraqi-Turkish border. He also highlighted coordination mechanisms with the KRG to achieve the project’s developmental goals.
The meeting included key federal figures: Transport Minister Razzak Al-Sa’dawi, Coordinator of Provincial Affairs Ahmed Al-Fatlawi, Chief of Advisors Abdul Karim Al-Faisal, Economic Advisor Mohammed Ali Al-Hakim, and Head of Border Ports Omar Al-Waeli. The KRG delegation included Transport and Communications Minister Anou Jouhar Abduka, Baghdad Representative Faris Abdul Karim, and several general directors.
Minister Tamim clarified that the Development Road Project represents a federal initiative. Its management and security will fall under federal government jurisdiction. Revenues generated by the project will be distributed according to Iraq’s constitution. Furthermore, plans are underway to establish an independent federal administration with full authority to manage the project.
KRG Transport Minister Anou Jouhar Abduka stressed the project’s strategic importance. He described it as a long-awaited “Iraqi dream,” spanning from Basra to Kurdistan. Abduka reiterated the KRG’s support and commitment to providing the best conditions for project implementation.
The meeting also reviewed routes in Kurdistan and border crossing points. Officials assessed the economic and developmental feasibility of each project station. Both sides discussed ways to link Iraqi cities to the main route using roads and railways. This approach aims to ensure maximum economic benefits.
The Development Road Project will promote regional development by generating employment, creating economic and industrial cities, and bypassing urban centers to minimize land disputes and conflicts. Officials agreed that the project aligns with Iraq’s growth strategy while integrating smoothly with global transportation networks.
