Lawmakers Prioritize Yazidi Community Compensation in New Budget Plans

First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Mohsen Al-Mandlawi confirmed on Sunday that the government will include a provision in the upcoming budget. This provision aims to support the Yazidi community compensation. He emphasized the need to address the deep wounds left by ISIS’s atrocities against this group.

Al-Mandlawi described the attacks on the Yazidi community on August 3, 2014, as one of the most tragic moments in modern Iraq’s history. He said, “This painful event remains a bloody chapter that haunts the nation’s conscience.” Furthermore, he stressed that survivors bear witness to the sheer cruelty and terrorism of ISIS.

The Deputy Speaker highlighted parliament’s ongoing commitment to protecting Iraq’s diversity. For example, the Yazidi Female Survivors Law was enacted to deliver justice to victims. Al-Mandlawi expressed full backing for government programs aiming to rebuild Sinjar. These programs also help displaced Yazidis return safely to their homes.

Importantly, Al-Mandlawi vowed to push for financial support within the budget law. He said, “We will allocate funds to compensate victims for the suffering they endured under ISIS.” Additionally, he plans to collaborate with local authorities in Nineveh. The goal is to maximize the number of Yazidis receiving compensation.

The government’s focus on Yazidi community compensation reflects a broader effort to heal past wounds. It also seeks to restore stability in affected regions. With this approach, lawmakers hope to provide both justice and support to those who suffered. This step marks progress in Iraq’s fight against terrorism’s lingering impacts.

As the budget discussions advance, many look forward to concrete measures. These will honor the Yazidi community’s resilience and ensure they receive the care they deserve. By prioritizing Yazidi community compensation, Iraq sends a strong message of solidarity and commitment to justice. This initiative will also encourage national reconciliation and foster long-term peace across the region.
