Iraq’s Top Officials Call to Support Government Reforms Ahead of Elections

Baghdad – Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani met Speaker Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani on Monday to discuss Iraq’s political roadmap. The leaders focused on the country’s direction and preparation for the upcoming legislative elections.

The meeting occurred as Iraq moves steadily toward its sixth parliamentary elections, scheduled for November 11, 2025. Meanwhile, political parties are already mobilizing across provinces. Consequently, the stakes are high as leaders aim to deliver lasting reforms and stability.

Following the meeting, Al-Sudani’s media office released an official statement. According to the release, both officials strongly stressed the need to support government reforms through close and effective cooperation. Moreover, they underlined the critical role of joint efforts between the executive and legislative branches.

During their discussion, they covered national priorities and citizen-focused programs. In particular, they emphasized reform plans that aim to boost Iraq’s economic performance and improve financial systems. Above all, development remains a top priority for both leaders.

In addition, they reviewed the latest regional developments and their impact on Iraq. They called on all political forces to unite around shared national goals. The leaders believe national unity is key to maintaining security and confronting serious challenges.

During the meeting, preparations for the 2025 elections took center stage. The two officials reaffirmed their commitment to holding the vote on schedule. They promised to ensure that the election process reflects the real aspirations of Iraqi citizens.

Both leaders also spoke about the importance of transparent and fair voting procedures. They agreed that a legitimate and trusted election will help support government reforms and build public confidence.
