Duhok and Zakho Make History in Iraq Cup Final

Iraqi Kurdistan football pride continues to grow as Duhok and Zakho football clubs reach the final match of the Iraq Cup. This historic moment marks the first time two Kurdish teams have reached the final together.

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani congratulated both clubs on this major achievement. In a public message, he praised the players and teams for their dedication. He said, “Both teams and their players deserve our admiration.”

In his official message, Barzani expressed heartfelt congratulations to Duhok and Zakho. He highlighted their successful journey to the Iraq Cup final. Moreover, he emphasized that this moment is a source of pride for the people of Kurdistan.

He added, “I extend my warmest congratulations to the players of both clubs. Their performance reflects their effort and unity.”

Meanwhile, Kurdistan Prime Minister Masrour Barzani also joined in celebrating the occasion. On the social media platform X, he praised both teams for their historic progress. He described it as a great achievement for Kurdish youth and sports in general.

Additionally, the Prime Minister said, “This is a proud day for all Kurdistanis. I wish both teams continued success.”

The final match is scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 8 PM. It will take place at Al-Shaab Stadium in Baghdad. This face-off between Duhok and Zakho is expected to draw strong regional and national attention.

Duhok qualified by defeating Quwa Al-Jawiya with a 3–1 score. Zakho, on the other hand, won against Al-Shorta after a dramatic penalty shootout. Both victories demonstrate the growing strength of Kurdish football teams.

Indeed, Iraqi Kurdistan football pride has reached a new level with this accomplishment. Not only does it showcase athletic talent, but it also highlights unity and regional growth.
