Iraq Stands Firm Behind UNRWA

Iraq has once again made clear its unwavering commitment to humanitarian efforts by expressing strong support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani confirmed that Iraq supports UNRWA through every possible means, reinforcing the country’s role in regional humanitarian cooperation.

This pledge came during a meeting in Baghdad between the Prime Minister and UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini. The discussions focused on the challenges UNRWA continues to face while delivering critical services. The agency works under intense pressure and constant threats, particularly from Israeli forces active in the Gaza Strip.

Both parties highlighted the urgency of halting ongoing military aggression. They also stressed the need to accelerate the delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza. Another priority included the opening of border crossings to ensure that supplies reach those most in need.

Iraq supports UNRWA not just in words but also through actions taken at key regional summits. During the Arab Summit and the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit, held recently in Baghdad, Iraq proposed the creation of a special fund for Gaza reconstruction. This proposal reflects a practical and structured approach to easing the suffering of Palestinians.

The commitment goes beyond short-term aid. Iraq sees its involvement as part of a broader regional responsibility. The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that Iraq will continue standing alongside UNRWA and all humanitarian actors dedicated to justice and peace in the region.

By standing with UNRWA, Iraq seeks to reinforce the international call for fairness, relief, and sustainable support for displaced Palestinians. As the humanitarian crisis deepens, Iraq supports UNRWA with increased urgency and political backing.

This renewed stance confirms one clear message: Iraq supports UNRWA as part of its lasting commitment to human rights and regional stability.
