Rising Heat and Dust Alert

Iraq’s Meteorological Authority has issued a forecast warning of a rising heat and dust alert across many regions. The outlook shows a trend of increasing temperatures and frequent dust activity driven by northwesterly winds.

Skies will remain mostly clear with occasional clouds. Winds from the northwest will blow at moderate speeds but may intensify, especially in the eastern parts of the southern region. These stronger winds are expected to lift light dust into the air, reducing visibility to as low as 4 kilometers in affected areas. Temperatures will be high across the country. Sulaymaniyah will see 36°C, Nineveh 38°C, and both Kirkuk and Anbar 39°C. Central areas like Baghdad and Karbala will rise to 43°C, while southern cities like Maysan and Basra will reach an intense 48°C.

The following period brings little relief. Conditions will stay clear and hot. Winds will continue to strengthen in the central and southern regions, contributing to further dust formation. As temperatures increase slightly, the rising heat and dust alert will remain active.

Northern areas will experience similar weather patterns. Skies will be mostly sunny with a few clouds. Winds will vary from light to moderate. Temperatures will continue to rise gradually, maintaining the warming trend and prompting further concern.

In the next phase, the north will see hot and slightly dusty conditions. Moderate northwesterly winds will return, stirring up more dust. Visibility will again drop in dusty zones, and temperatures will stay close to previous highs.

The consistent theme throughout the forecast is clear: a rising heat and dust alert is in full effect. Citizens are advised to take precautionary measures. Limiting outdoor exposure, drinking water frequently, and monitoring weather updates can help reduce health risks.

This extended period of heat and dust highlights Iraq’s environmental challenges. By preparing early and staying informed, communities can better handle the impact of the rising heat and dust alert.
