Iraq National Security Service Seizes Smuggled Goods in Major Operations

Iraq’s National Security Service (INSS) has launched large-scale nationwide operations that led to the seizure of tons of smuggled goods in Iraq. Moreover, these actions, backed by judicial approval, protect public safety and enforce trade regulations. Importantly, the operations highlight Iraq’s strong commitment to safeguarding legal and health standards.

In Anbar province, security forces intercepted two vehicles carrying 48 tons of chicken illegally imported from banned sources. Consequently, they immediately arrested the drivers and transferred them to the courts. Additionally, another operation in the same province targeted two trucks transporting 3,640 cartons of banned food products. Therefore, authorities detained three individuals and moved the confiscated items to official agencies. These actions demonstrate the ongoing fight against smuggled goods in Iraq.

Meanwhile, in Diyala province, security patrols stopped two vehicles transporting 3,650 live chickens without veterinary certificates. Since the chickens posed health risks, officers handed them to the proper authorities through an official seizure process. As a result, this operation shows the government’s seriousness in tackling unsafe food smuggling.

Furthermore, in Kirkuk, enforcement teams disrupted an aluminum smuggling scheme. Three large vehicles carried 17 tons of aluminum along unauthorized routes. Consequently, officers seized the materials, detained the drivers, and submitted the case for legal review. These measures emphasize the government’s resolve to block illegal trade networks.

In addition, in Baghdad, the Ports Security Directorate executed a major raid. Investigators discovered a container truck loaded with 400 banned motorcycles. They immediately arrested the driver, and authorities are investigating the case. This operation further shows how security units coordinate to prevent the circulation of dangerous or unauthorized imports.

The National Security Service emphasized that all seizures had full judicial backing. In addition, authorities transferred all suspects and confiscated materials to legal agencies. Therefore, these steps demonstrate how coordinated actions protect citizens, strengthen national security, and reduce risks from smuggled goods in Iraq.

Through these operations, Iraq shows determination to block illicit trade and secure its markets. Moreover, officials emphasized that enforcement against illegal imports will continue with greater intensity in the future.
